Robert Baxter

Robert Baxter is a trumpet player and conductor who lives in Blanefield.

After gaining a BA from the RSAMD Robert has worked extensively with all the orchestras in Scotland, in particular the BBC SSO and the orchestra of the Scottish Ballet. He has also worked with the New London Consort, Goldberg Ensemble, Singapore Symphony Orchestra and the Tenerife Symphony Orchestra.

Robert has given around 200 recitals with the Athenaeum Brass Quintet and many with the Scottish Trumpet Consort which he has also composed for. He is a founder member of both these ensembles. He also enjoyed working on a number of West End touring shows including Cats, Barnum, Fiddler on the Roof, Sound of Music and Me and My Girl.

Robert has enormously enjoyed conducting the Helensburgh Orchestral Society for the past three years and performing its varied repertoire.

He has been the conductor and musical director of the Dunbartonshire Concert Band since 2000 and has worked with them on recordings, radio and tours. He recently took over as conductor of the Dunbartonshire Wind Ensemble and is enjoying working regularly with the young people there.

He works regularly for National Youth Orchestras of Scotland either as an instructor or on the audition panel and does similar work for WOSIS (West of Scotland Independent Schools). He has been an examiner for the RSAMD and has adjudicated a number of school music competitions as well as teaching trumpet at St Mary’s Music School in Edinburgh.
